Vivarium, 2019 – ★★★★

Delightfully odd, Vivarium plays like an extended Twilight Zone episode, for good or for ill. The production design stands out as quite unsettling, especially the curved streets and uniform clouds. I like that very little “behind the scenes” was revealed, but we got enough to understand the base level plot. While Imogen Poots doesn’t rise to the majesty of Florence Pugh or Toni Collette, her grief and horror is palpable, and the way the child was dubbed reached into my core and tugged on a fear i didn’t know I had.
