What a strange movie. Could easily stand alongside the kind of indie films being made in the early 2000s. Quirky, dark, odd. Like Little Miss Sunshine and Slums of Beverly Hills. Both Evan Rachel Wood and Debra Winger disappear into dowdy muted characters, and Gina Rodriguez continues to shine her queer light upon everything she touches. Ultimately, though, it felt unrealized, as though the turning point into the last act should’ve been into the second. Rodriguez and Wood are so compelling together, i felt cheated by the little time we actually got to spend with them.
