Simple and occasionally effective, this found footage film mixes with folk horror in interesting, if not in many new ways. The cult of, eventually, old naked people as always, are reminiscent of so many others, Wicker Man, of course, but also the Martyrs group. The reason for the found footage is, as always, a question of why didn’t they just put the camera down? As for the story itself, it doesn’t really figure out its own answers. We know what happened when one of its threads is chased down, but the final 10 minutes or so are so chaotic it’s often difficult to figure out what’s happening on screen. Oh, and different color daisy head masks? Uh, okay.
It did, however, make me want to remake The ‘Burbs with Tom Hanks’ character being a true crime podcaster. So…
