Summer of Sam, 1999 – ★★★½

Summer of Sam is a beautiful and stylish mess. The weird wraparounds, Spike Lee’s atrocious cameo, a finale that details how Sam was caught that directly conflicts with what we already saw, and worst of all, some really rough queer discrimination. Great soundtrack, though. And there is no way to shoot a talking dog that doesn't seem very silly.
