Spree, 2020 – ★★★

An enjoyable, if rather surfacy satire of the image obsessed influencer culture. Stylistically, I quite enjoyed how this was put together, complete with in app screens as well as the multiple video streams. Beyond style Joe Keery delivers a fun performance, and Sasheer Zamata is great. After that, though, like the culture it satires, it’s rather vapid and empty. That said, the closing sequence, revealing the aftermath and the hero worship of the psycho, feels EXTREMELY relevant, uncomfortably so. But prescient.
