Possum, 2018 – ★★★★

Like Magic and Pin, and other inanimate objects as metaphor for mental illness films, Possum lives or dies by its object, which happens to be utterly terrifying, a hybrid tarantula with a man’s head puppet that is so frightening and so expressive without ever moving its face. Sean Harris as the nearly silent lead conveys every emotion through movement, expression, and tension in his body. Absolutely mesmerizing and terrifying, even if the ending did leave us with more questions.
